DUTEURTRE Benoît

French writer Benoît Duteurtre was born in 1960 in Sainte-Adresse, a town bordering Le Havre. A contemporary music enthusiast, he studied musicology. At the same time, he started publishing novels inspired by Balzac in the 1980s. Acclaimed by his peers (Samuel Beckett, Philip Muray, Philippe Sollers) Benoît Duteurtre was awarded the prix de la Nouvelle (Short Story Award) by the Académie française for Drôle de temps in 1997 and the prix Médicis for Voyage en France in 2001. He also wrote a number of essays, including on contemporary musical creation.

L’Été 76 (2011) is an autobiographical novel on the author’s teenage years in Le Havre.
